Books by Amatullah Tasneem – Sister of Mawlana Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi
Sayyida Amatullah, Tasneem, (1908 – 1976 CE) is the daughter of Sheikh Hakim Sayyid Abdul Hai Hasani Rh, former rector of Nadwatul Ulama, Lucknow, and elder sister of Sheikh Sayyid Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi Rh.
She was born on 18th of June, 1908 on Thursday. As she belonged to a literate family, she was well acquainted with the environment and had a keen interest in reading and learning.
Her father himself was a great author; therefore, she developed such a great interest and sense of reading that she used not to leave any book without reading that came to her. This gradually increased her interest of reading and writing, and with the effects of her efforts, interest, concentration, environment of literate family, she started writing with adequate fluency. This was the time when she wrote an article “Meri Be-Zuban Ustaniyan” which got published in grandeur woman magazine “Muslima”.
In 1926, she was married to her first cousin Sheikh Abul Khair Hasani Rh, who was an excellent poet, literary person, Islamic scholar and memorizer of Hadiths. His company increased her interests in literature and poetry. Three children were born to her, but they all died in infancy. This, however, deeply affected her mentally and physically.
Many other marital troubles which were a trail to her, but her religious beliefs and practices made her firm and fruitful for later life. She achieved a nice sense of poetry which she used in her supplications before Allah for patience and console. Her supplications-cum-poetries were later compiled and published, are a valuable gift for the godly persons.
Her most elder brother Dr. Sayyid Abdul Ali Hasani Rh suggested her to translate the untranslated acclaimed book of Imam Nawawi Rh on Hadiths, “Riyadh Al-Saliheen” which she did by the name of “Zaade Safar” with some more elaborations and sub-headings. It is widely appreciated.
In 1947 CE, she went to perform hajj.
She died on 28th of January, 1974.
